Question on Logging

I have a simple question about logging open files. Both XYDOS and
XYWin have a "Quicklog" choice on the "File" menu. It is almost
always greyed out and unavailable. The couple of times I was able
to access it, it logged all open files immediately instead of
forcing me to designate a logging file and other time-wasting
maneuvers. Does anyone know what makes it unavailable--and, in
the best of all possible worlds, available?
