That's one viable option. It's also possible to have a secluded system that is not on the internet, dedicated to running certain older apps that require -- or perform better -- under the older Windows. In our extended family, there are currently two XP rigs like that, one of them in an office environment. Anything that requires more modern support or access to the internet is covered at these locations by another computer running Win 7.
In view of the new MS business model, some abhorrent changes (like being able to opt out of their patches and updates, which have several times proven very harmful in my experience), and Win 10's gross violations of user privacy, I have no plans to ride that train. 7 was probably the pinnacle of Windows, anyway. So, when support for it ends, I hope I will have found some acceptable alternative -- even if it turns out to be the Mac or Linux, should the virtualized or isolated computer routes not be sufficient.

Lynn,
If you put Windows XP in a virtual machine on your computer, you can have
the XP running XyWrite and 7 controlling everything else.
