Maybe not the best comparison, because it is definitely a copyrighted commercial product that is still used in certain sectors and parts of the world, but OS/2 had been "brought back from the dead" a few times after being written off. And also because it's an OS, not an application program. But it is still being developed and supported by the third company to take on that mantle. I bought a license to the latest iteration recently . . . even though I don't much care for the annual subscription model.
