I think that time is rapidly approaching. The marketing of PCs has been
compared with the "planned obsolescence" marketing of cars in the
immediate postwar period. Then came the Toyota.
Will Linux do for PC planned obsolescence what well made Japanese cars
did for Detroit's version?
And, Rene, you will not have failed to notice the large number of posts
to the list about Windows XKE, or whatever it's called--they're flogging
The All Wise and Powerful Gates but they're rushing out to upgrade, even
though, as Ed Cray has pointed out, XKE is only a bells and whistles
improvement that apparently does little in the way of useful things for
people who want to use it mostly for word processing and/or spreadsheets
(and a nice game of SimCity or Civilization once in awhile?).
