Umm, it just works!
I wish. There isn't any ASSOC.EXE or FTYPE.EXE on my system. I have used
the Folder Options method, but the "Advanced" button doesn't work (probably
due to lack of one or both of these .EXEs).
I have the utility QuickAssoc (Ziff-Davis) and am able to make associations
via it, but even using the %1 still results in Xy opening saying "path not
found." This occurs even when Explorer is logged in to the Xy folder (so no
path seems to be required).
The command line in Quick Assoc reads:
"C:\xy\EDITOR.EXE" "%1"
I added the quotes in both places, on the advice of their Help file, and it
didn't fix the problem.
I couldn't find anywhere on the web to download assoc.exe or ftype.exe
from. If they are small files, maybe someone could send them either to the
list or to me privately at: hb@xxxxxxxx
Thanks.
If XyWrite isn't one of the listed "Open
With" apps, click on "Other", browse to Editor.exe, and add it
to the list of open-with apps (it will stick). Don't add a
/e4000 arg with a *space*, like you told Michael Norman to do...
The e4000 (if you want to/need to/are able to use EMS) goes like
this: "editor.exe/e4000". Thus, the first param [%1] to
editor.exe is the file that explorer has selected -- that gets
CALLed:
editor.exe[/e####] %1[,startup_file]
