Hi, Tom. If you're willing to devote two keystrokes
instead instead of one to getting to another window, that's
eight more keys than you need to dedicate to the purpose.

Although you could do it more succinctly in xyW4--
which I know you use--you can retain the present
command even in xyW3 if you use the suggested custom.kb3
sequence and a pgm like #W (below) that requests the
number of the target window. Timothy Olson also mentioned
using a pgm that takes this approach. xyW4 code? Perhaps
he'd share it? (Excuse me if he or someone else already
has; subscribing to the xyDigest does have a down side.)

#W uses a low-tech technique that's broadly applicable
in xyW3 to keep the old command. Delete the pgm's CI if
you ordinarily work in insert. The !xyWiz xyW3 windows
manager !W restores the at-launch insert/overstrike
state, command, and CMline cursor position after doing
this task or any of several others involving windows.
What's on my own Shift+Alt+Ctrl numeric keypad are !W
options that divide the screen any of a half-dozen
different ways or close windows; Shift+Alt+Ctrl 5
invokes the module that asks which window to activate.
