Re: XYWRITE digest 1454

Robert: How does your backup routine get around the fact that if you're
running XCOPY from a DOS Window in Windows, certain files cannot be
copied because they're running, but if you run it from a rebooted DOS
prompt you cannot (from 98 on) copy the read-only, hidden, and system
files? (Talk about Catch-22!)
As for apps, you are obviously getting most of your apps off the Net (I
download everything to drive F:, which also holds temporary backups,
files I'm collecting to burn to a CD, and other oddments). But when you
install from a shrink-wrapped CD, it really give you a hard time if you
DON'T use C:\program files. Corel WP Suite in particular (which I use a
lot, because my chief current client does) duplicates a lot of its files
and folders on C: and D: if you try to install it on D:; that's why I
gave up and put it on C:
I agree 101 percent about DATA. Always have a separate partition for
that; WordImperfect at least will let me tell it that that, and not My
Documents, is where to look for and save files, though it often has to be
reminded.
