Not a solution, but possibly a workaround: BIGDIR.PM

What BIGDIR.PM does is to import DOS directory listings into a
XyWrite window, preserving XyWrite's "point-and-shoot" command
functionality with CAll, REad, RUN, and other such commands. It's
written for Xy3 -- the original purpose being to overcome memory
constraints that cause lengthy DIR listings to crash Xy3 -- but it
also works in Xy4. Basic usage is as you'd expect:
RUN BIGDIR.PM [filespec]

If it works for you, it would be easy enough to turn it into a Xy4
U2 frame.
