Re: Description of 3/21/96 Revision to XYOS2SHL.ZIP (for OS/2 XyWriters)

James,

Yes, I believe you can switch to any OS/2 or DOS process by typing

sw name_of_process

on the Xywrite command line, where is the help frame parser that
you (should have) assigned to a key (more on that in Carl DiStefano's
Smartset if you need help). The name_of_process should be the name of the
window as it appears in the OS/2 Task Window (Ctrl-Esc). You can also use
"aliases" with sw to avoid having to type out long names. Use sw /nw to view, edit and add to the list of valid aliases.

sw also works as a command in both OS/2 and DOS. Once you have switched out
of XyWrite to an OS/2 session, for example, use "sw x" to go back to
XyWrite, or "sw Whatever" to switch to the process "Whatever."

Please forgive a few ignorant questions, but....
Will the xyos2 shell allow me to have several OS/2 and DOS apps running
quietly in the background while running XyWrite full screen--and then, when
I want to switch to them, use an Xy/Dos keyboard shortcut to switch to an
OPEN
application, not just to open a new one?

In my ideal world, I'd be running XyWrite/Dos full screen and have all my
regular apps--an OS/2 phone book, the OS/2 IAK, my DOS scheduler--open
all the time, and switch to them with keystroke combinations.

Thanks
