I'd call it a "toggle" arrangement. Very similar to what Windows has done
with the Alt+Tab key combination, except they use it to toggle among
different programs. XyWrite instead toggles among different open files.

The MS Word/Windows way is a little cumbersome (You can visually select among
"cascaded" windows or select another open window by way of the drop-down
menu).

Xy wins again for elegant simplicity.
