Dear Experts,
Moving office this fall brought a lot of good housekeeping operations with
it. Right now, in XY4, I'm trying to get rid of all redundant versions
of SETTINGS.DFL and consolidating my various personal settings, backed up
at irregular intervals, into one clean file. I have before me the generic
.DFL generated by a fresh installation, which gives me a point of
comparison for all the alterations that have occurred in my use of XY4 over
the years. My manuals are getting a good workout, and it's about time I get
more familiar with some of the defaults.
Here's the question. At the bottom of some of my versions of SETTINGS.DFL
are lines like SG1986=1 or SG1984=1, which I recognize as save-gets in the
extended or permanent range. But what do/did they mean? Most of the other
SG___= are followed by paths (e.g., SG1906=C:\XY4\. My instinct is to get
rid of all of them, especially since a lot of them are simply repetitions.
But it might be good to know what they mean.
Carlo
