Might I suggest a workaround? Archive your huge Tbird file somewhere, on
CD ROM, for example, regularly (with the date in the file name). Then
delete some emails from your running version on the pc to get the file
size down.
Thanks for the suggestion, but I do delete most of my e-mails; just
keep those I may need to reply to (because Tbird will NOT--as far as I
have been able to find out--keep all the info one needs for accurate
threading unless one hits Reply. There's no way to copy it from a
saved post to one that one is writing. But that humongous file is
plain ASCII (because I categorically refuse to enable even HTML, never
mind graphics, in e-mail; asking for malware), so I could open it in
anything; wouldn't need to reimport to Tbird.
Huge files are bound to get corrupted sooner or later, and if
all the mails are in one file, you risk losing them all just because a
file header or eof delimiter or something gets buggered.
Anything I'm going to need permanently (like the posts to this list) I
copy and paste and save elesewhere, so that's not an issue.
