Wildcard Problems

Has anyone encountered this wildcard "bug"?

I use the W wildcard in a string of search and replaces (ci) to
convert
XyWin's modes to Quarkable prefix/suffixes. Ocassionally, the
search and replace for the bold modes goes a little wacky and
takes the first search and replace candidate it finds and inserts
it into every other bolded text block that it counters. So, if
there are a bunch of bolded names in the text, with the first
being "John Smith," the wildcard makes every bolded name in the
text "John Smith".

Oddly, this never happens with the underlined text ().

Any comments?
