I haven’t taken a direct look at having the keyboard functions
change for Word. However, I have written Windows programs where
it was necessary to check incoming key(board) presses and call
appropriate handling routines or simply pass
it it on.
This can easily be used to make a custom app-specific keyboard
configuration. And, some of these handling routines could be
used to simply invoke a scripted process. – Not a problem to
implement, assuming there’s an application to do
it in…

Yes, of course, one can switch between US and UK and German keyboards
in MS Windows, but can one assign text editing _functions_ to single
keystrokes in MS Word? ... without going through the ridiculously
cumbersome procedure of creating and editing and saving and retrieving
macros? That is what I like about the Xy keyboard file, and any
'improved', version of Xy must keep this functionality to keep me on
board.
