Just to clear up confusion about what Bill refers to as "OED2" versus what I
was calling "OED v2":
With "OED2", Bill is referring to "OED Second Edition". That's the current
edition. The Third Edition is still years away. The Second Edition includes
and integrates the basic First Edition dictionary (1857-1928), the First
Edition Supplement (1933), and the four Second Edition Supplement volumes
(1972-1986). v3 of the Second Edition CD adds the three Additions Series
volumes (1993-1997) (a negligible contribution, IMO).
First Edition CD-ROM was published (by a licensee of OUP) in 1988
and phased out in 1992. Never seen it. Included the 1933 Supplement
Second Edition CD-ROM versions:
1992 - v1 <==this is the version we're discussing here
Important CD software releases:
1992: v1.0 <== run from CD only (?)
1994: v1.10 <== allows hard disk installation
1995: v1.11* <== allows hard disk installation
1996: v1.13 <== no hard disk installation allowed
1998: v1.14 <== no hard disk installation allowed; software is
still available from:
http://www.oup.co.uk/zip/ep/oed1_14.zip
and Macintosh software is also available
(v1 is the only version that supported the Mac):
http://www.oup.co.uk/sit/oedmac.sea
1999 - v2
2002 - v3 <== currently available for purchase
Third Edition (circa 2010 ? you hear different publication dates)...

When there's "free" time, sure. But I think much of this is already discussed
here, or referenced, just in the last few days. I could throw together a ZIP
of the important documents (some published by OUP) and add-on utilities (like
M$Word macros, and a XyWrite XPL macro that allows you to summon an OED
definition from a XyWrite document), and post it at XyWWWeb.

OUP published a pretty simple web page describing the process of installation
of a hard disk. The page is now disappeared, but I have it. Could include it
in the ZIP... It isn't a difficult thing to do (install v1.1* to hard disk).
