RE: Xy4 Setup

One annoyance XY4 provides me regularly is the error message "Too many
letters in filename." XY3 didn't care how many letters you typed, so long
as the first eight matched a file. In XY4 I'm constantly looking at
directories to see if I shortened "colloquium" to "colloq"
"colloqui"...
In XY3 I didn't have to remember such things. Since I'm a fast typist, I
type in words, not random truncations, so if I want to look at
"sincerit.jot" in XY3, I always type "sincerity.jot."

Is there a way to convince XY4 to be like its predecessor on this account?
