The kind of people who prefer XyWrite as a word processor are unlikely to
like Explorer. No problem: numerous alternatives are available, some of
them free. (One excellent example is Servant Salamander,
http://www.altap.cz/ .) This list's very own Robert Orndorff
http://www.rmonet.com/ has a page about such Norton Commander-derived
utilities.
MS's documentation for the MS-DOS substrate of Windows 9x is either
appallingly flimsy or expensive. Well, so what? Take Command
http://www.jpsoft.com/ is much easier to use and comes with first-rate
docs. Want an unsorted directory? dir /Ou An unsorted bare directory? dir
/b /Ou Et cetera.
Incidentally, I thought this list was about XyWrite, not the pros and cons
of Win9x (which may be read about and discussed ad nauseam elsewhere). If
we are going to discuss Win9x (no favorite of mine), can we at least keep
it concise?
