Sure. You could set up two styles, UP and DowN, that establish
MoDes SUperscript and NorMal and associate them with the desired
fonts. For example,
Then: This would be normal text. This would be
sanserif superscript. Back to normal. Etc. Footnote
superscripts would be in the main-text font.
