I think quite often you can't. That said, I have
installed many apps to other partitions. Sometimes
this works out fine. Sometimes though, even when you
do that, a number of constituent files *still* get
dumped into . . . what are they called, a couple of
big directories under the WINNT portion of the
directory tree. (Sorry, I'm on the eCS side at the
moment, and can't view this for reference, but it's
towards the bottom of your Windows Tree View, for W2K
or XP.)
I'm not an accomplished enough Win user to know the
answer to this, but what happens if you go into Win
Explorer, and drag the folders for an installed app
from C: over to D:, E:, or whatever ? But this
wouldn't take care of the files I referred to above.
Some years back, I used to use a Norton program whose
name momentarily escapes me. It was an alternative to
the Add | Remove Programs built into Win. This
program monitored all installs -- every file, and
where it went -- maintained in a database. The main
purpose was to enable *complete* uninstalls, including
Registry entries, but I imagine you might need
something like that database in order to have a
reasonable shot at relocating _all_ of the files that
apps drop into those huge "common" Win directories.
