Re: U2 glitches
Judith:
Hmmm. This sounds like some kind of memory-management
problem. Are you allocating expanded (EMS) memory to
your XyWrite session under Win98, and are you instructing
XyWrite to use it by launching EDITOR with the /e switch?
Xy4 will use up to 4KB of expanded memory. You have to
make sure that the value of EMS on the Memory page of the
Win98 Properties folder for XyWrite *exceeds* the value
appended to "/e" on the "Program" page, by approximately
230Kb or more. For example, if you have /e1000, allot
1232Kb of EMS to the application; if /e4000 (the maximum
allowable amount), allot 4224Kb of EMS. Give it as much
expanded memory as you can spare.
I gotta say, based on your and Harry's problems and other
comments in this space, it doesn't sound as though Win98
provides a very hospitable environment for Xy. I'm
running it under WinNT as I sit here and under OS/2 at
home, and I'm unable to reproduce your symptoms no matter
how hard I try. I paging and scurrying around
XYWWWEB.INF like crazy in Page-Line view and even
Graphics view, and my session remains rock solid. I'm
not saying change your OS -- we'll persist and do the
best we can with what you have, but sheesh!
Anyway... lemme know what you're doing with expanded
memory.
