1. In the Mac world (I'm sure about the Windows world), if you are
looking at a web page and hit Print, then you have the option,
instead of printing, to save-as-pdf. (In fact, you can set it up to
drop down a menu of save locations or, if you point it at the Mail
program, instead of a folder, it will open a blank message with the
pdf attached.
2. The Firefox (or Mozilla) extensions you want are:
Adblock
Bookmark backup
Tabrowswer Preferences
Copy Plain Text
Auto Copy
SessionSaver
Googlebar
PDF Download
Download enhancer (or some name like that)

Hi Carl,
Thanks for your reply. That's pretty much what I
thought: the IE single, complete page SAVE (*.MHT, or
in MS-ese, "web page archive file") must be some
proprietary deal.
I'm a Mozilla user, because I generally prefer the
integrated suite approach, at least for this
application category. Mozilla is pretty slick these
days -- far better than IE for most browsing chores,
and very good for email. The newsgroup portion is
quite serviceable, though not one of the best tools
for that usage.
One thing I'm just starting to get into are the
optional Extensions for Mozilla (and FireFox) -- sort
of like various one-shot U2 routines that extend the
reach of the base app., but not nearly as well
developed ! Some do what they claim to do fairly
well, others don't, and they don't all play nice
together. A few of them have been known to compromise
some versions of FF or Moz. This really gives me even
more of an appreciation for the tremendous
contribution you and Robert have assembled with the U2
library. Things don't always tend to turn out that
well.
