Tyson's 1990 book predates Signature ('91), Xy4 ('93) and XyWin
('94), so it will only give you a grasp of those programs to the
extent they resemble their III+ progenitor -- which is to say a
great deal. Obviously, it sheds no light on any of the later
enhancements. (Tyson had an update in the works, but threw it over
in favor of projects on OS/2 and MS-Word.) What the book does do --
showcase XyWrite's configurability in a way its inventors never saw
fit to attempt -- it does superbly.
Had it come out five years earlier, when Xy was getting rave notices
in the computer press, it might have provided the critical boost Xy
needed to reach a wider market. Or not -- we'll never know.
