Italic mode in Xy III DOS

I am using XyWin and am sending my work to someone who prints them in Xy III
Plus in DOS. When I use the "MD IT" command, it does not appear in the
XyDOS screen and the mode shows as "MD O" or something. What mode does Xy
III DOS use for italics? and what would be the best way for me to use this
mode in XyWin and for someone to print this and still have the italics mode
in Xy DOS?
