Yes. But there are different levels of nastiness: (i) sounds nasty, (ii)
is nasty, (iii) will really screw things up even for people who use their
heads. Note that there is now a largish industry (Symantec, Network
Associates, et al.) who have a large financial interest in keeping
everybody scared.

Well, you know, TTG are so busy constantly working to improve their
products that they have no time left over for releasing them. But isn't it
good to know that XyWin 4.13, 4.14, 4.15, 4.16 etc. all exist, even if only
on diskettes in the company safe? (Or so I imagine.)

Well, in one sense of "binary", any file is binary. And I haven't seen
much consistency in the use of other senses. NB guillemets themselves
aren't ASCII.
But you (plural) are making a good point: that one can embed more nasties
within a Word file than within a Xy file.
