I've played with zoom, and 'size as a % of Printer Font' but these make
little difference. The only font with which I can reliably keep the
descenders on screen is Lucinda Console. It seems a shame to be forced
to use a non-proportional font when there are so many better fonts
available. This may be font-size sensitive, to the extent that if I
move from my usual 12pt to a smaller font, more of the descender appears
but I cannot find a way to entirely eliminate the problem with the
proportional fonts I have tried.

I have a query for anybody using Notabene regularly. I have found
that when I reach to bottom of the screen, the descenders in the
bottom line of type (where, inevitably I am typing) disappear off the
bottom of the screen. I have tried different fonts and sizes but all
show this to a degree. Is this just me, or does anybody else see the
same effect?
You mean the bottoms of letters such as p, g, y and so forth are
slightly cut off by what NB calls its *status bar?* Yes, I get that too.
Play with the zoom a bit and see what happens. Play also with
preferences->Screen Display->Screen Fonts *Size as a % of Printer Font.*
(We might be able to set these more precisely in nb.ini; I haven't
checked.) Or toggle to *Full window* especially in draft mode and it
works fine. Even in V8 after all their iterations there are still screen
handling issues. For example, raise the zoom to 150 in draft mode, and
as you type the first two line of text you might see those *extenders*
you refer to flicker in the first two lines. I run a two-screen setup
under Ultramon and when i quite NB in *full screen* I get a serious GPF
and have to reinstall the program. (NB NY is working on a fix.) The
screen issues, apparently, depend on your setup, all the factors that
drive your display. For years most of these issues were in draft view,
where XYWriters like to work. Starting with V8, the authors addressed
many of those issues, but there are still some very small anomalies and
artifacts, depending on your setup. For example, I changed the
background screen to dark blue with gray letters. When I start the
program now, it behaves a bit spastically with blue and white screen
flipping up and disappearing until finally the blue comes up solid. I'm
sure there are easily explainable reasons for some of this, easily
explainable by people who know who the program works.
