Good idea! But he'll never see your reply (unless you also sent it
to him privately). Only subscribers receive posts to the list and,
for the moment, he's not a subscriber.

Anyway, not to worry. I've reinstated his subscription for him.
Lest anyone wonder, I occasionally have to terminate a subscription
when the e-mail address no longer accepts messages (e-mail account
suspended, inbox full, various other glitches). If that ever
happens, simply resubscribe yourself (after you've resolved the
problem with your ISP). Instructions for subscribing,
unsubscribing, catching up on missed messages, etc., are at the URL
quoted above; please bookmark it.
