  Since Jim is MIA this week, let me reiterate what I suggested to him over
the phone: most likely your line problems are not in your modems but in the
central exchange. If you simply change your telephone number to one that is in
a different exchange, one with modern switching equipment, I'd bet that will
solve all problems.
