I may be the last dinosaur running xyWrite mostly under plain old DOS,
without multithreading or even multitasking (although my DOS's
multitasking utility works fine). So I know that this is of narrow
interest, but for the record: I was lamenting here only recently
the inability to shell out from the xyWrite CMline to a DOS app
that renders html graphically. When I wrote that, I unknowingly
already had software in my system that makes it possible.
I just discovered that I can shell out from xyWrite 3 to the DOS
graphical browser Arachne http://www.naf.cz/arachne/. I've never
got the Klos dos packet driver to load high so can't shell out
to Arachne to log on, but what I needed more--a way to graphically
preview files xyW2html-tagged without having to quit xyWrite--
Arachne indeed does provide when offline.
Interesting to read that Carl too has written a URL collector.
HTMXpro's xyW2html converter
ends with a module that collects links and makes a new file of them
to make proofing easier, and I adapted the module to my xpl offline
reader. The real challenge is managing the links data base that
quickly accrues. Every email download contains a zillion new URLs,
not to mention the dups. Guess the next step is an xpl links db manager.
And here I thought I'd run out of projects. --a
