If you still can get a parallel port card particularly one
that offers a choice
between lpt1 and lpt2 why not try putting one into your
computer as lpt2 if
you can select that as an option on the card.
Maybe wndows 98se would recognize that as new hardware. good
luck.
though I think Branch Ricky said something to the effect that luck
is only
the residue of preparation or planning.

Subject: Lost LPT1
Under the heading of dumb and dumber, I uninstalled a program
called System
Suite and suddenly lost my printer port, LPT1 (W98SE). Tried
everything.
Reinstalled drivers, removed port and rebooted so WIN could
reinstall.
Changed BIOS to ECP. Nothing has worked. I either deleted or
corrupted some
file that affects LPT1.
Meanwhile, just to have a
printer, I also installed the machine's (HP2200D)
USB connection (you can
connect either way) and driver and I can print when
that is set as the
default. If I'm indeed toast and can't get LPT1 back and
have to live with
USB, can I print from XYDos. I searched for the
workarounds in the list but
did not see anything definitive. If someone
remembers the post(s) and can
point the way I'd be grateful.
