Re: Nota Bene

Paul --

With regard to changing the draft mode font, I have some good news, but
with a warning. The command DMFONT can be used to change the draft mode
font. BUT ... before you do it, a word of warning! Any change will
result in an irreversible change to the way the opening and closing
command brackets display on the command line. The double angled brackets
will appear as a circled R and an over-bar.

The DMFONT command will produce a dialog that can be used to change the
font in draft view. It will also change the font in page-line view and
codes view and on the command line. The change on the command line font
will be effective only in subsequent NB sessions; the change in draft view
and codes view will be effective immediately. You must choose a
monospaced font, and one that uses the ANSI character set. There is
nothing in the dialog that will direct you to fonts that meet these
criteria, so you can easily get unsatisfactory results (the cursor will be
in the wrong place if you select a proportional font, and characters will
vary if you don't use the ANSI character set). If you want to make the
change, Courier New, Elite and Letter Gothic are three monospaced fonts
that use the ANSI character set. Even with these fonts you will loose the
correct display on the command line for the opening and closing command
brackets.

We have not had many complaints about the draft mode font, so improving
the dialog and providing a means for returning to the default setting are
not high on our priority list. We have not documented this command, and,
at this point, we do not recommend using it. But if the draft font is
preventing you from enjoying NB, by all means change it!

With regard to the demo, we now have a new demo that you can try even if
you tried our demo before. The new demo will provide access to Scholar's
Workstation for 90 days and cannot be reinstalled on the same computer.
It can, however, be installed on a computer that was used for pre-August
versions of the demo. The new demo can be downloaded from
http://www.notabene.com/winsws_demo.html or we'd be happy to sent it to
you on CD (send requests to demo@xxxxxxxx).

Thanks for your interest. Hope that you enjoy it.
