There's some confusion here--it's very common confuision--between fonts and
page description languages. PostScript, like PCL, is the latter. PostScript was
developed by Adobe Systems, I believe for the original Apple LaserWriter. At
the time, Adobe made no real distinction between PostScript itself and what
have since come to be known as Adobe Type 1 fonts. The fact is that both on the
Mac and PCs under Windows, you can mix-and-match PDLs and font types. In other
words, depending on your equipment, you can print to either PostScript or
non-PostScript printers using either Adobe (ATM) or TrueType fonts. XyQuest's
choice of Bitsream Speedo was, alas, yet another poor decision because that
format appears to be an evolutionary dead end.
