OK, let's step back for a moment. Let's take the Speedo characters
out of the equation. After all, these are 3-byte characters that
aren't part of the US Ascii charset. (For example, the [294] small
alpha is actually three Ascii chars, 254, 38 and 0, that display as
one in Xy.) Let's focus on the range of 1-byte upper Ascii chars that
*can* be displayed in XyWrite, i.e., Ascii 128-253. (Recall that, in
Xy4, 254 and 255 are control characters and can't be displayed in 1-
byte form.) Here's a link showing how 128-253 display for me in Xy4-
vDosXy, with CHCP 437 and DF LA=437:

The file that I used for these screen shots is attached. CAll it in
XyWrite -- be sure to use eXPanded view: CA/100 ASCUPPER.TXT;
otherwrise the lines with Ascii 174 and 175 won't display correctly
-- and compare what you get to what I get. Do they differ? If so,
where? (Note, by the way, that Ascii 224 is a small alpha in CP 437.)
