Re: Off-topic request for assistance

Eric--

The book Nathan recommended is Windows 98 Annoyances, by David A. Karp
(O'Reilly and Associates; $24.95). Discounted to around $19 by amazon.com
in the U.S. You can get a pretty good sense of it--along with quite a few
helpful hints from the book--at Karp's website:

I haven't seen the book, but I trust O'Reilly publications and I'm about to
get a copy.

Those of us who do freelance editing don't have much choice when it comes
to OSs and word processors. We've no alternative. Practically all book
publishers have gone over to MS Word by now. (I know, I know. Not every
last one, not the best.) Like you, I'd been getting along with Win 3.i and
Word 6, and by now am pretty much forced to go to Win 98. Which means new
hardware, upgrades to 32-bit for Win software, and so on. And on. But with
dual-boot, thank goodness, I can continue to spend much of my time in the
OS/2 and WINOS2 that by now are pretty well tamed and very well-behaved.

Isn't this group terrific? I've come to count on the help and the leads to
help that I find here.

Regards,

Robert Hemenway
