It could also be something simple, like the plug for the external keyboard
isn't pushed in securely -- what you describe is consistent with that. And
ThinkPads are very susceptible to going flaky *if* using a (round) PS/2
connector that isn't pushed in tight (this is USB or PS/2 keyboard?). Try
putting some light sideways pressure on it while Xy is flickering. XyWrite
puts more demands on the keyboard interrupts than DOS does, and monitors the
keyboard buffer more frequently. It might sense a bad connection where DOS
wouldn't. Maybe
