Re: HY 2

If my memory doesn't fail, "HY 2" sets Spanish hyphenations rules on in Xy3. In Xy4, if I am right, hyphenation rules are managed by the default PCLEX dictionary. So, the only possible values are "1" or "0". I would be very grateful if someone could confirm this point.

Manuel, there are two things that affect hyphenation in Xy 4. The hyphenation command, HY 1 or HY 0, sets hyphenation on or off, and can be issued from the command line or set in settings.dfl. The defualt is off (0).
The other hyphenation factor is default hv=, normally set in
settings.dfl. It is followed by three numbers, separated by commas. The
first is the minimum number of characters in a hyphenated word; the
second, the minimum number of characters that can appear before a
hyphen; and the third the mimimum number that can appear after one. The
initial default is 6,3,3. (I have found that I have to use 6,2,2 or
XyWrite itself gets hyphenated XyW-rite--a fact that caused a friend to
remark that the program seemed to be lacking in ethinc pride!) This is
on pp. 24-25 of the English-language Customization Guide.
As for your Spanish-language-derived deltas, XyQuest or TTG SHOULD have
done something, but I strongly doubt either did. North Americans, I
fear, are horridly insular about other languages (even Spanish, some
form of which is the second most widely spoken language among US
residents). "Accents? Oh, those funny little marks foreigners use? What
do we have to know about them?" is too often the attitude. (As a
patriotic U.S. citizen, I regret having to say this, but "Amicus meus
Platon, sed maiora amica veritas.")
