Yes, and you need to re-LOAD this file for the edits to take effect.
But this "trick" isn't what's required here. Note that STSPELL is
only needed to fetch the contents of the TEMPORARY spell file from
memory and write it to disk for editing (e.g., to delete misspelled
words added to the temporary file by mistake); the temporary spell
file is not saved to disk, and is thus not available for editing,
unless you first STSPELL it.

Here, though, Avi said that his colleague added an incorrect word to
her *permanent* business.spl file, by hitting F5 (not F3) during a
spell check. You can always edit your "permanent" plain-text SPL
files (but never the binary DICT.SPL!!) in the normal way:
CA [filename], edit, STore (or SAve), LOAD [filename]. (By personal
SPL file, I mean any text file that has the ;SP; identifier at the
top.) You don't need to use STSPELL to create these files -- they
already exist.

Anyway, the bottom line is that Avi's colleague trashed her DICT.SPL
file by CAlling and SAving it in XyWrite. As David said, she needs
to obtain a fresh copy of DICT.SPL and copy it into her XyWrite
directory, overwriting the trashed copy. DICT.SPL is available here
(save dict_spl.zip to disk, then unzip it into your XyWrite
directory):

Don't be alarmed by "xy4" in the URL; DICT.SPL is DICT.SPL -- the
same file is used in both Xy3 and Xy4.
