If it does not have to be XYwrite, you could try the brilliant little file
management utility "Windows Commander".
Shareware, costs about 30 USD, but the downloadable version is fully usable
(nag screen, I think).

Typ Alt+F7, go to Advanced Search, et voila... you can zap through any
directory(ies) according to all sorts of criteria, including date.

The speed is definitely XYwrite-like. Has a command line, too.

Sorry about the plug, but if feel about the thing almost like I feel about XY.
