A while back there was some discomfort manifest when one of our number
referred to women as "girls." This was considered a breach of
prevailing etiquette or sensitivity by one or more who wrote back and
by others of us who said nothing. May I lodge a soft-spoken protest
about another offensive expression: The use of the name Jesus or Jesus
Christ as an expletive.
I noticed two or three messages recently that throw that expression
in for emphasis. I'm of the camp that believes that name is the most
important single element in the happiness of any human being. I'm
offended when people use it to raise the voltage of their sentence.
Around Muslims I wouldn't use Allah as slang. Around Jews I wouldn't
use Yahweh as slang. Around Christians, propriety requires that
courteous people not use Jesus as slang.
Use s**t if you wish or even ****. Or even ********! Thanks for
hearing me out.
