Happily, that's not true. In Pine, you must first select the messages
you want to export to a file using:
1) the very intuitive ; (semicolon) for Select, then (normally)
2) t (text), then
3) the field you want the text to occur in (To, From, Subject...), then
4) the string of text to select on
At that point you can work blind with the messages now marked with an X,
or you can use Z (zoom) to display only the Selected messages. (Z is a
toggle, so you can also use it to unzoom.)
Then you use
1) A to Apply the following command to all Selected messages, then
2) E to export all the messages, S to save them all to some folder, etc.
3) If you've exported them all to a file, you can now Apply the Delete
command. (Save automatically saves & deletes.)
If you're in a folder whose entire contents you want to Export to a
file, use ; (Select), then A (All), then Apply your Export command to
all selected messages (then Apply the Delete command to all the messages
already exported).
Now you're ready to use an FTP client to download the file(s) of
Exported messages (as Ascii Text)...
Now wasn't that easy? At least you know you're not getting any embedded
scripts/viruses!
