And live chat -- the fingers behind it -- on the site says there are
other models with XP as well, including Optiplex, which is what most
universities offer.

That would just be totally unacceptable, any way you
slice it.
If accurate, that would be the first time I've heard
of anything like this. Maybe a good time to check out
Fujitsu. Still Made in Japan, and possibly still
available for order with XP installed, rather than
Vista. I don't recall if it was on Tom's Hardware (a
very good site) or CNET, but the Fujitsu models based
on Intel got better reviews than the ones based on
AMD.
