Dear Carl
It is weird, I agree. You may well be correct and there is a hardware
element involved in the display issue, but I have no idea what it might
be. I can get 47 lines too now, so I am happy with that.
I don't understand the Microlytics speller issue. When I shell to DOS
from XY4 in VDOS it tells me I have 64512K of EMS available. Is there
any way of telling from inside XY4 if it actually as access to EMS.
Maybe I am starting it incorrectly?
editor.exe/e2048
is how I have it at the moment but I have tried it will various spaces,
colons etc without any greater success. When I launch from XP I usually
have:
EDITOR.EXE /e4000
Best wishes
Paul

Paul, that's weird. I think you're right about 47 lines being the actual
vDos max, but I have no trouble getting 47 lines and 80 or 100 columns
by setting the corresponding values at the XyWrite command line. On the
other hand, there may be a hardware element in play. Both of my monitors
(work and home) are 10+ years old, and the experience may be different
on a newer monitor.
I have no trouble running the Microlytics spell-checker under vDos on
both of my machines (both happen to be HPs). Again, I'm wondering if the
trouble you're having is hardware-related. Is there anything
special/unusual about your setup?
Best wishes,
Carl
