Except that the law of supply and demand is operating powerfully
here: because of M$'s "only one incarnation of the opsys" policy,
 a lot of people who want to be able to install their copy on as
many systems (in succession) as they anticipate needing to have
been buying up shrink-wrapped copies of XP even before Vista came
out. Such a copy now costs rather more than some versions of Vista.
