Linux can put its boot sector other places than the beginning of the
partition (otherwise dual Win/Linux systems wouldn't be possible).
You can even put the Linux boot sector on a floppy, and have your
system setup so that if the floppy is in the drive, it boots to Linux,
otherwise to Windows.
