XySearch is on a virtual network (a radio connection over 20 miles of sea, then
5 miles of fiber to a T1). We had incessant problems with the network starting
20 July (TCP chorusing, duplicate ACKs, incessant time-outs). At length we
discovered a bad cable with two crossed wires at the other (not my) end of the
wireless conversation. That cable was replaced at 1700 EST on 4 August. We
also took the opportunity to fine tune many of the parameters in the radios.
The current result connection is looking very good. Uploads are averaging 360
kbps, latency is around 10ms (not too shabby for 25 miles of virtualized
"Ethernet cable"). I'd value a feedback or three re the performance, because
its hard for me to tell -- I'm directly connected to the subnet (the XySearch
server is across the room), hence response is instantaneous.
