I'm reaching back into memory here, since I haven't customized III+ for a
while...., but I believe that if you rename the shift keys to non-standard
names (e.g., KAPS for the Caps Lock key, or TOM, DICK or HARRY or whatever),
then you can make any key (including the regular keys and the standard shifting
keys) into a shifting key that obeys the corresponding key-assignment table.
The requirement of a non-standard name may persist into Xy4, for all I know....
In Xy 3.55 I used to use the Caps Lock as an extra control key, with the Caps
Lock function moved to F1. It worked fine with the modifications mentioned
above.  Good luck!
