Thanks, Timothy - though in fact the question you responded to was not a
request for help: it was (take a breath) my reply to Carl's denial of my
remark that XPL lacks a function which will insert loaded strings (I was
asking him what function he had in mind).

Incidentally, there is a better way to access SUed (or, for @save/gets,
LDPMed) save/gets than the file-op procedure you describe: a pure-XPL
approach (which thus leaves the command line and disk untouched) which works
for all 936 stable save/gets (not just the @s) and is very simple (though
there is a trick). Check out my Dec. 19 post for details. I think it's a new
idea, though I haven't been able to get an answer on this.
