Dear Mr. Breslauer, XyWrite 4.0 install sets up to print to a device (LPT1,
LPT2, or COM1) by default. However, if you are using XyWrite 4.0 and printing
on a parallel interface printer directly attached to the computer, you can edit
the Printer File Selection Table to have "1" instead of "LPT1".
The advantage in doing this is to allow XyWrite 4.0 to send the information
directly to the printer rather than sending your information to a device name
"LPT1" and which then copies it to the printer.
To edit the Printer File Selection Table select from the File menu Printer
Setup - (F10,F,R). In the Select Printer File dialog box, activate the Edit
and change LPT1 by deleting LPT so that 1 remains - then hit OK. Reload your
printer file and try printing a file - Does the messge go away?
If changing this setting did not get rid of the message, you can add a retry
setting to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file to indicate how a print job should be handled
when a printer does not accept information. Use the following command to
continue sending a print job to LPT1 until the printer accepts the job:
MODE LPT1:,,P
