Definitely. Do you use lazy writes? XP does, by default. They say they're
done, but they aren't.
Is that settable? For removing the Firewire back up drive, my expedient is
to give a DIR command to the drive first, hoping that will cause it to
write its buffer, so that I can then remove it. I do this because the damn
thing in the tray usually says, "I can't stop this device now." And
continues to do that forever. Brilliant!
How do you actually know when writing is done? How do
you know what the consequences are of putting ungrounded power to your USB
device?
It's the removal of power. No one has claimed any problem about inserting a
USB device, only removing it.
You can't assume that all the power connectors will let go
simultaneously.
I don't know what that means, but it sounds like you are here talking about
removal.
