this is kind of embarrassing, but once again, user error did me in --
somewhere along the line, evidently I had changed hogthreshold to (3) --
as a consequence, Conky would show the CPU temperature shooting up from
its normal of 51 all the way up to 59, rather worrisome in such a little
model. now that I've reset it, it stays at 51/50.
and many thanks for the notes on your backup strategy. when I used the
thumbdrive boot option to install onto the netbook I was kind of bowled
over. have just burned systemrescuecd, and hopefully by the end of the
afternoon, I'll have at least a quick-n-dirty partimage plan to
guarantee I can recover everything within a couple of hours in case of
disaster.
