This may not be relevant, but what Windows keyboard layout are you using?
I have the US International loaded, which enables me to type accented
letters, but makes me hit the space bar after an open single, close
single, open double, or close double quote or an apostrophe; otherwise,
if the following letter is one that can take an accute accent or an
umlaut, that's what I get. Now with Win 9.x, that has no effect at all on
XyW, which takes over the keyboard completly; but possibly with Y2K or
XP, Windows' hold on the keyboard is stronger, and it and XyW are
fighting for dominance? Just a thought, but your mention of the space bar
put me in mind of the one disadvantage of US International.
